Xuan is sensitive to the opinions of parents and has created School Committee liaison to each elementary school PTOs to improve the communication

Dr. Xuan Kong is the current chair of the Acton Public School Committee. I attended his Q&A practice three years ago when he was campaigning for the School Committee. My first impression of Xuan was that he was very knowledgeable, yet very modest. He was open to all critiques. Later, I watched the Candidates Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters on TV. I was convinced by his exceptional performance that he would win. Indeed, he received the highest votes among the candidates during his first campaign.

A half year later, on top of his public service as a member of School Committee, Xuan was elected as a board member of Acton Chinese Language School. At that time I was the school principal and also a board member. This gave me an opportunity to work with Xuan and get to know him better. Xuan became the Treasurer of the Board because of his MBA background in finance. I once made an urgent request to Xuan on a Friday evening to translate the ACLS Financial Policy into English in order to get ready for the Sunday’s Board discussion on this important financial document. Xuan did not make any promises, but he said he would try his best. I was surprised to receive his translation on Saturday morning. He had completed and sent me the document at 3:00 am. It was an excellent translation that reflected his in-depth understanding of financial terminology, concepts, contents, and fluency in both languages. I was amazed by his excellent work and deeply moved by his dedication as a devoted volunteer.

I am very happy that Xuan decided to run for a second term. The School Committee needs passionate and competent volunteers like Xuan. His experiences as university professor, a volunteer for the Gates School PTO and Acton Chinese Language School, and three years of service on the Acton Public School Committee give him sound knowledge of the education system and the needs of our students. He will continue to advocate for the educational benefits for our students through balanced resource allocation. Being a dedicated volunteer himself, he appreciates the hard work of teachers, staff and administrators in order to educate our students. As a father of two school age kids, Xuan is sensitive to the opinions of parents and has created School Committee liaison to each elementary school PTOs in order to improve the communication with communities. Our Acton community is lucky to have Xuan on the School Committee as a strong contributor and a great leader. Please vote for him on March 30th.
